On December 15, 2025, the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) unveiled the United States Tech Force, a two-year initiative designed to modernize national IT operations by recruiting approximately 1,000 technology professionals. This ambitious program seeks to address the growing need for skilled tech talent within the federal government and accelerate the adoption of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, and data analytics.

The initiative is specifically targeting professionals in fields such as software engineering, AI, cybersecurity, data analytics, and technical project management. The selected individuals will play a critical role in strengthening the government’s IT systems and leading modernization projects across various agencies. With salaries ranging from $130,000 to $195,000 annually, the initiative is positioned to attract top-tier talent, offering competitive compensation in a field where demand is rapidly outpacing supply.

The U.S. Tech Force is backed by a collaboration with over two dozen prominent tech companies, including Apple, Microsoft, Meta, Nvidia, and OpenAI. These partnerships will provide crucial support, such as specialized training, mentorship, and potential post-government employment opportunities for participants. These collaborations are expected to help bridge the gap between the public and private sectors, facilitating the transfer of advanced technical expertise into government operations.

Government officials have emphasized that the program is non-partisan, with the primary goal of addressing critical talent gaps within federal agencies and improving the technological infrastructure of the U.S. government. This initiative reflects a broader push to modernize public-sector operations, with a particular focus on AI adoption and the integration of cutting-edge technologies into government processes.

The launch of the U.S. Tech Force is seen as a significant step in enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of federal operations. By recruiting skilled tech professionals and fostering public-private partnerships, the initiative aims to strengthen the government’s ability to respond to evolving technological challenges and ensure that the public sector remains agile in the face of rapid technological advancements. This effort underscores the importance of technological modernization in the modern era and highlights the government’s commitment to closing the digital divide within its operations.
