Washington, D.C. is currently hosting WorldPride 2025, a three-week international celebration of LGBTQ+ pride, culture, and activism. Running from May 17 to June 8, the event marks the 50th anniversary of Pride in the U.S. capital. However, the festivities unfold amid escalating political tensions and diminishing corporate support.
A Historic Celebration in the Nation’s Capital
WorldPride 2025 has transformed Washington, D.C. into a vibrant hub of LGBTQ+ events, drawing an estimated 2 to 3 million attendees from around the globe. The city is alive with parades, concerts, art exhibitions, panel discussions, and human rights forums, all themed around “The Fabric of Freedom.”
Among the highlights are performances from internationally renowned artists, including Shakira, Grace Jones, Janelle Monáe, and Doechii. One of the most anticipated events is the WorldPride Parade on June 7, which will feature more than 300 LGBTQ+ organizations marching down Constitution Avenue. The parade is expected to culminate with a massive rally at the Lincoln Memorial.
Political Climate Casts a Shadow
