Universal’s Epic Universe: Opening May 22, 2025
Overview of Epic Universe
Universal’s highly anticipated Epic Universe theme park is slated to welcome visitors on May 22, 2025. This venture, which was first revealed in 2019, represents an approximately $7 billion investment into Orlando’s tourism landscape, according to reports from CNBC.
Significance and Economic Impact
Casandra Matej, the CEO of Visit Orlando, highlighted the park’s significance, stating that it is “the first major, entirely new theme park in the U.S. in 25 years.” Research conducted by Sean Snaith, director of the University of Central Florida’s Institute for Economic Forecasting, indicates that Epic Universe could contribute around $2 billion to Florida’s economy within the first year of operation, while also creating more than 17,500 jobs across the nation.
Park Features
Covering an impressive 750 acres, Epic Universe is set to be the largest of all Universal properties and will comprise five distinct themed areas:
- Celestial Park
- Dark Universe
- The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic
- Super Nintendo World
- How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk
Additionally, the park will feature multiple roller coasters, dining options, and three new hotels, enhancing the overall visitor experience.
Familiarity for Harry Potter Fans
Harry Potter enthusiasts can rest easy; Epic Universe marks the introduction of a third Harry Potter-themed area in the vicinity. Other existing attractions include Explore Hogsmeade at Universal’s Islands of Adventure and Diagon Alley at Universal Studios Florida.
Attractions and Experiences
In the vibrant Super Nintendo World, visitors can engage with interactive features using Power-Up Bands. This includes striking question-mark boxes from the Mario universe and tracking scores in Mario Kart, alongside other engaging activities like playing drums with Donkey Kong.
Broader Impact on the Area
Though Epic Universe is located less than 10 miles from Walt Disney World, experts predict that this new attraction will positively influence the entire Orlando area. As Matej stated, “It’s a rising tide that lifts all boats,” suggesting that the park could stimulate increased attendance not only at Universal attractions but also at Disney and nearby amenities such as hotels and restaurants.
