The Transformative Impact of MEXT on Turkish Manufacturing
Opportunity for Growth
Established in 1959, the Turkish Employers Association of Metal Industries (MESS) is a key player in
Türkiye’s economy, representing over 230,000 employees across critical sectors such as automotive,
machinery, and steel. Collectively, these sectors account for 40% of the country’s manufacturing exports.
MESS supports its members through various services, including technology solutions and procurement
platforms, striving to enhance their adaptability in a swiftly evolving global market.
“Our members are learning to successfully navigate the fast pace of change and innovation. We aim to accelerate their adoption of digital and sustainability capabilities, from the board level to frontline workers.”
In collaboration with McKinsey since 2017, MESS has created a comprehensive innovation and learning center
named MEXT. This initiative is designed to equip members with the tools and strategies necessary for both
digital and sustainable transformation, reaching over 650 companies and recently introducing artificial
intelligence as a focal point.
A Tailored Solution
Launched in 2020, MEXT operates within a sprawling 10,000-square-meter facility, offering a digital
factory, capability-building initiatives, and a global partner ecosystem. These four core elements work
synergistically to support an innovative and resilient manufacturing sector.
“Having something very tangible and actionable definitely helps in the transformation journey.”
MEXT provides access to over 100 global thought leaders and offers tools for maturity assessments,
targeting all organizational levels to enhance technological skills. The center features a digital
factory with over 170 sustainable digital applications and ESG tools for industries with high emissions,
such as the automotive sector.
Measurable Impact
MEXT has achieved remarkable results, benefiting more than 650 companies across various industries and
training over 31,000 individuals. Noteworthy outcomes include a 15% productivity increase and the
implementation of numerous digital solutions. In 2022, MEXT hosted over 1,000 manufacturing executives,
fostering discussions on Türkiye’s sustainability targets towards a net-zero future by 2050.
“We are not only touching the C-suite and mid-level managers, but 70 percent of the total number of people we reached out to are shop floor operators.”
Beyond Türkiye, MEXT is also expanding its services to six countries, including Germany and the United
Arab Emirates. Its partnership with the European Innovation Council enhances its objectives in digital
transformation and AI, ensuring that it remains at the forefront of technological advancements.
