MrBeast’s Vision for Meta: Audio Dubbing in Multiple Languages
In a recent episode of the “Colin and Samir” podcast, celebrated YouTuber MrBeast, known as Jimmy Donaldson, made headlines by unexpectedly joining Mark Zuckerberg during his discussion with the hosts. With a staggering 378 million subscribers, MrBeast leveraged this platform to suggest improvements he would implement if he were the CEO of Meta.
MrBeast’s Proposal for Meta
During the interview, MrBeast focused on enhancing user engagement on Facebook by proposing the introduction of audio dubbing for videos in different languages. He highlighted that this feature could significantly expand his reach, given that an estimated 70% of his audience does not speak English.
“If I was CEO, that’s one of the first things I’d fast-track,” MrBeast expressed enthusiastically. He elaborated on the advantages he experiences on YouTube, where videos can automatically play in various languages based on a viewer’s geographical location. For instance, a viewer from Mexico would hear his videos dubbed in Spanish.
Zuckerberg’s Response
Mark Zuckerberg responded positively to MrBeast’s suggestion, deeming it a “good one.” He assured that Meta would work on implementing the dubbing feature within a year, thereby aligning the platform more closely with the needs and preferences of creators like MrBeast.
Additionally, Zuckerberg mentioned that artificial intelligence could play a crucial role in automating the dubbing process in the future. MrBeast noted that he has begun experimenting with AI to generate his voice in different languages, achieving a 1% higher viewer retention rate with AI dubs compared to traditional voice acting.
The Impact of Dubbing on Reach
MrBeast emphasized the limitations encountered on Meta’s platforms without the dubbing feature, sharing that many of his most-engaging videos on Facebook and Instagram often do not feature his voice. He cited one of his most popular Instagram videos, which amassed over 250 million views, where he ran with bundles of cash without verbal commentary.
By allowing for dubbing, MrBeast believes Meta could dramatically enhance content accessibility. “If you’re not dubbed, you can’t reach the majority of the world,” he pointed out, underlining the significant potential for creators to engage a global audience.
Meta’s Audience and Opportunity
As of now, Meta boasts over 3 billion monthly active users, the highest of any social media platform. Acknowledging this massive audience, MrBeast commended Facebook Video for its potential to connect creators with viewers broadly, asserting it offers unique opportunities that other platforms may not match.
The global reach on platforms like Facebook is particularly relevant, as the country with the largest number of Facebook users is India, followed by the United States and Indonesia. These statistics suggest a vast, untapped market for content creators who can engage users in their native languages.
