Google is testing an experimental AI feature that uses your search and Discover feed history to create personalized podcasts. According to 9to5Google , Google’s Search Labs’ Daily Listen feature is rolling out to Android and iOS users in the US and works similarly to Google’s NotebookLM project’s Audio Overviews feature.
Daily Listen looks at your search data and interactions with your Discover feed to assess which news articles are of most interest to you, then summarizes those stories and topics into approximately five-minute audio summaries. It provides a text transcript and audio scrubber controls that allow users to play, pause, mute, rewind, or skip to the next story.
Search Labs users who opt in to try this experiment can find Daily Listen in a personalized widget carousel below the search bar at the top of the Google app. A Related Stories tab corresponding to the content in the overview appears at the bottom of the audio player, allowing users to thumb up or down each story or explore new topics.
There is currently no word on when this feature will be available to the public. Google’s AI Search Overviews was tested in a similar way through Search Labs before being released to the public last year, so Daily Listen could one day become a permanent feature. Hopefully it will be an easier feature to opt out of than AI Overviews.
