Starting next season, Max will no longer be the first place to watch new episodes of the beloved children’s show Sesame Street, The Hollywood Reporter reported. Platform owner Warner Bros. Discovery has decided not to renew the deal with HBO and Max’s producer Sesame Workshop, meaning new episodes of the series will have to find a new home.
Sesame Street is one of several children’s shows on Max, but other streaming services like Disney Plus, Netflix, and even YouTube Kids have plenty of content parents can play for their kids. I understand. According to THR, the end of the deal for new Sesame Street episodes is part of a strategic shift to focus on adult content and broader family-friendly content, including the Harry Potter series, which is scheduled to be released in 2026.
The company plans to continue streaming current episodes through 2027. Last year, Sesame Workshop executive Kay Wilson Stalling told The Hollywood Reporter that the upcoming season 56 (season 55 will be available on Max next month) would be a “reimagining.” Shows with longer narrative segments and more sophisticated storylines.
