President Biden’s administration will end within two months, and his cabinet’s top science and technology official, Arati Prabhakar, is likely to leave as well. She has been the director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy since 2022 and was the first person to demonstrate ChatGPT to the president in the Oval Office.
Prabhakar was instrumental in passing an executive order on AI in 2023. The executive order sets guidelines for technology companies to make AI safer and more transparent (though it relies on voluntary participation).
As he prepares for the end of his administration, MIT Technology Review spoke to Prabhakar about President Biden’s achievements in AI and how his approach to AI risks, immigration policy, the CHIPS Act, and more will change under the Trump administration.
