Is it possible to truly understand another person’s mind?

Technically speaking, neuroscientists have been able to read people’s minds for decades. Let me tell you, it’s not easy. First, you have to lie motionless inside an fMRI scanner, perhaps for hours, while you watch a movie or listen to an audiobook.

If you choose to endure a claustrophobic period in the scanner, the software will customize and reconstruct what you see and hear by simply analyzing how blood moves through your brain. Learn how.

More recently, researchers have introduced generative AI tools such as stable diffusion and GPT to create more realistic, if not completely accurate, reconstructions of movies and podcasts based on neural activity. So how close are we to real “mind reading”? Read the full story.
