Apple to Revise iPhone Release Schedule to Introduce Foldable Model
Apple Inc. is set to alter its iPhone release timeline in 2026, including the much-anticipated launch of its first foldable device. According to a report from The Information, the new foldable iPhone is expected to debut alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and “Air” models, while the standard iPhone 18 will see its release pushed back to the spring of 2027. This adjustment will coincide with a follow-up to the iPhone 16E.
Reason for Schedule Changes
As Apple expands its iPhone lineup to include six distinct models, the introduction of a foldable device necessitates a reorganization of its release strategy. Analysts suggest these changes are essential for streamlining offerings and addressing market demand.
Foldable iPhone Design and Features
The upcoming foldable iPhone is anticipated to feature a book-style design rather than a clamshell form factor. When closed, the device will have a 5.7-inch display, expanding to nearly 8 inches when opened. Renowned supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has indicated that the foldable will measure between 4.5 to 4.8mm in thickness when unfolded. It is also expected to utilize Face ID technology instead of Touch ID for user authentication.
Battery Innovations and Upcoming Devices
In addition to the foldable model, Apple is reportedly working on a new battery case for the iPhone 17 Air. Testing has revealed that the battery life on this model might not meet the performance levels of previous iPhones, leading to this innovation.
Advanced Face ID Technology for iPhone 18 Models
Further enhancements are expected in the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max models, which will likely feature under-display Face ID sensors. This advancement would allow for a sleeker design, leaving only a minor cutout in the top-left corner for the front-facing camera.
As Apple prepares for these significant product launches, the adjustments made to the iPhone lineup reflect its commitment to innovation and consumer satisfaction in an increasingly competitive smartphone market.
