Streaming Platforms Target YouTube Creators for New Deals
As streaming services look to enhance their content libraries, platforms such as Netflix are ramping up efforts to secure contracts with popular YouTube creators, according to The Wall Street Journal. This burgeoning trend could lead to substantial partnerships with high-profile channels like Dude Perfect and former NASA engineer Mark Rober.
Response to Creator Success
The push to sign creators has intensified, fueled largely by the outstanding performance of MrBeast’s “Beast Games.” Reports indicate that Amazon has already garnered over $100 million in profit from the show, which has prompted the company to negotiate for two additional seasons. MrBeast, known for his engaging content, is reportedly seeking upwards of $150 million per season to continue.
Negotiations with YouTube Creators
Both Rober and Dude Perfect have been approached by Netflix; however, specific terms are complicating the discussions. One key issue is Netflix’s policy against promotional activities for products within the shows it funds. This policy is particularly challenging for Rober, who actively sells robotics kit subscriptions through his channel. In contrast, Amazon’s business model includes promotional opportunities, making it a more appealing option for creators like Rober.
